Chili Ice Cream in Jiaoxi, Taiwan

I wanted a night out on the town … Like, a let’s-be-wild-and-eat-a scoop-of-ice-cream kind of night on the town. Things started to heat up when I stumbled upon this shop during my search for excitement — a mecca for spice diggers.

It’s tacky. It’s touristy. It’s trite, but I had to try. How could I refuse the friendly looking mascots out front?

Actually, they’re a little frightening, but not enough to dissuade me from taking a gander at the menu, which had a variety of flavors and spice levels to choose from …

… And then buy a scoop. I chose the chili peanut flavor.

A teensy bit salty, a tiny bit peppery, and just crunchy enough. I wish I could report that I had worked up a sweat from eating ice cream, but I did not.

While chili ice cream is not something I anticipate craving the way I do peppermint or cookies and cream, its creaminess and subtle sweetness captured my attention in that moment.

Need more spice in your life? This may or may not be the place for you, but it was fun for a one-off experience.

There is a website, but it’s in Chinese. Learn more about it by taking in the sights, sounds, and, most importantly, flavors with a visit. It’s hard to miss. This lady will point you in the right direction:
